How come almost every single thread you've started has to do with violence in Winnipeg?

It's a big concern to me also! That day of "our" famous barbeque, when DeanKs very good wife came to get him, I followed him home, and on his way home he stopped 8 times to stab people, and we know how much beer he had here!

I am deeply concerned over random violence like the above becoming more and more common in my hometown Winnipeg. It's hard to ignore this type of news when we lead the country in crime, murder, car thefts etc.

So, other than being deeply concerned, what are you doing about it?

I agree, Winnipeg is kind of nuts. There's just too much urban poverty! Poverty is cultural so there's not much you can do about it short of being a good influence on others (push your friends to go to uni/college/tradeschool!) Maybe we should make post secondary school OR getting into business OR military service mandatory. Either you become educated/trained or you fight for your nation!

The advantage though is when you come from Winnipeg nothing fazes you abroad. That's why we're great travelers.

Poverty is cultural? I never heard that before, What does that mean?
Does that mean Wpg has too many cultural aboriginals who are too poor and to feed themselves they go into the crime business, or to get a beer they hang out where they sell beer and then they try and steal the beer using a knife?

haha..

That is so true. I've been through the worst streets of Calgary and Edmonton. They have nothing on Winnipeg.

Well, you brought up the subject, so you tell me.

First thing is, I don't buy beer at the Merchants, and I don't post in a public forum and b1tch about it when something happens.

I'm doing something about it. Right now I am phase 2 of my anti-crime orbital sniper platform "ACOSP" for short.
Once complete, ACOSP will orbit earth with its 24 mega lasers and will burn holes in criminals. We will do away with those dumb gps anklets, all criminals will have a locator/info chip inserted deep in their abdominal cavity. if they enter any business and commit an offense the chip will send out a signal, it will be processed and then the ACOSP will target and terminate the offender.

We will also outfit politicians with these chips too. that way if they do a poor job they can be fired. ( and will save tax payers having to pay out pension benefits)

I'd like the rights for the screenplay. (Anybody else see a movie in here?)

LD, would your ACOSP have a more lgobal coverage or would it merely hover over the north end?

geosynchronous orbit.

4 of them could cover 90% of the earth's surface. They also could be used to melt ICBM seconds after launch. Or to punch small holes deep into the earth. (possibly causing a small accidents deep in hardened bunkers)

I would be in favor of banning alcohol sales after dark. I know it sounds crazy, but it may reduce crime overall..

I wouldn't be in favor of that. There are times when I run out to buy some beer or a bottle of wine, after dark. That would be punishing those who are law abiding citizens.

Of course, it would increase illegal after-hours sales of booze.

Or it would create a spike in purchases in home beer-making kits Smile

Perhaps a bit of both! Smile
