As I approached Fredette's Grocery on Donald, I noticed "Downtown IGA" banners attached to the poles out front. A note on the door said the store was becoming "Fredette's IGA". I have no idea what this means for brands, selection or prices. Time will tell.

I guess as long as it remains open it provides downtowners a place to shop.

Safeway wholesale is Macdonalds Consolidated, and they sell to any independant grocery store, such as Cantor's.
IGA would be buying their groceries from a competing wholsale. I don't remember the different names.

I always shop for groceries at Giant Tiger when I am downtown. Their prices put all other Downtown grocerer's to shame.

I've noticed that Fredette's was deleting several Safeway no-name brands in the past few months... A few days ago they no longer carried Safeway brand of oatmeal cereal. I had to choose the Quaker brand.

Safeway is Safeway.

IGA and Sobey's own brand is called "Our Compliments".

All Safeway stores buy through Macdonald's Consolidated, which is set up to service the Safeway stores and any independant stores that wish to purchses through them
Western Grocers is the wholesale that service, superstore, tom boy, if they are still around and are owned by Westfair retail who had buying offices in Winnipeg, but moved the buying to Calgary, I think.
Precambrian, Pratt's, probably service any and all stores that will buy from them. i think Precambrian is set up to service northern stores.
