A couple from Sagkeeng, near Pine Falls, were the winners of $50M in Friday's Loto Max draw.

The Fontaines are to be congratulated for their win and will soon discover how many more relatives they have!

I'm sure they already know about 100 of their immediate family....many more will come out of the woodwork and something tells me the money will be gone in about 10 years if that. But congrats to them!

Am I the only one here that has never bought a 649 ticket? With the lucky MB winners lately maybe I should try my luck!

I'm always astounded hearing the stories about people who win large amoutns of $$ and then blowing it all in a couple of years.
If I won $50 Million, I'd probably keep $20 Million to live off of and set the other $30 Million up as a charitiable endowment, which I would manage.
good on them though.

I read somewhere that if you win the lottery, you are 10x more likely to become a drug addict, criminal, or commit suicide. I've also heard that almost 50% of lottery winners go broke in 5 years or sooner.

If I won a big sum of money I would help out family and friends, invest, open up a no kill animal shelter and travel the world with my family.

I would build myself an indoor ice rink, indoor pool, indoor gym/track (perhaps around the ice rink). I would include a greenhouse as well. For kicks.. I might just build it all underground.

Would you take the kids out of school?

My kids aren't in school yet. So if I would've won that 50 mill I wouldn't have to worry about taking them out of school.

With that kind of money you could hire private tutors, travel and show the children the world.....wow.....that is truly one of the best gifts to give, the gift of intellectual and creative freedom without worry.

One can only imagine what it would be like to have that kind of money. I hope that I would have the sense to have at least half of it locked up so that I could only access the income and maintain the principal.

Apart from new house, the usual toys, extravagant vacations, etc, I'd be looking at building a soccer complex, complete with indoor fields and artificial turf on outdoor lighted fields.

BTW, I don't think that I ever shared with you that my full name is Freeman Fontaine.

the part that scares me about that is where would you lock it up that it can be "safe"?

banks, credit unions, invesment companies, major stock traded companies. All have tanked in some way over the last few years. Even people who held multiple investments across a wide variety have been farked up the arse.

What I'm referring to is some form of irrevocable trust that you put in place even before you even pick up the winnings. Obviously, you'd need a lawyer and a money manager that you trust. (Is that an oxymoron?)

Even $10,000,000 at 2% is 200,000 per year. While that maybe poverty, you cold still afford steak once a week.

Not in Canada?? Bank and investment company closures - much bigger issue south of us. As to winning that kind of cash you put it into a trust.....that money could be sustained, managed and grown for generations.

Trust companies and the like have trust accounts (custodianships, if I recall correctly) for people who have a diminished capacity. I think most sandboxers would qualify.

Perhaps get a life sized gold statue of yourself made.. and coat it in bronze or someother such material where people will just think its some cheap material.
Statue would be damn close to impossible to steal because of the enormous weight, and if times ever got tough you could just cut off fingers and toes and such.
