Two dead after crash on Bishop Grandin

The car was loaded onto a flatbed truck in two pieces this morning.

WINNIPEG — Police say two young men have died after their car struck a hydro pole at high speed on Bishop Grandin Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. last night.

Const. Jacqueline Chaput said four men in their early 20s were in the vehicle when it crashed while travelling westbound approaching River Road. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and veered into the ditch. One of the survivors is in stable condition and the other is in serious condition, with non-life threatening injuries.

The two men that died in the crash were lifelong friends, said Chaput, adding they were originally from rural Manitoba.

"The vehicle was absolutely totalled. It does appear at this point that the vehicle was travelling in excess of the (80 km/h) speed limit," Chaput said, noting it was too early to tell if alcohol was a factor.

The vehicle is believed to be a newer, blue Infinity G35 two-door coupe. It was torn in half by the impact, a witness told the Free Press. The westbound lanes of Bishop Grandin have now reopened.

Wow, look at the damage to that car. Sad when 2 young people are killed like this. It's amazing anyone survived after looking at the condition of the vehicle!

I'm gonna stick my neck out and suggest alcohol was involved...

Jeez, its hard to read a story like that. Not sure about the alcohol, but its seems that speed was definitely a factor. You got to be moving to split a car in half.

This is Manitoba Hydro's fault! there is no reason to have the damned poles in the way! The electrical wiring could be underground at triple the cost! It would save lives!
