Has anyone ever tried it? If so, does it really work?

Tried it. Hard to say if it made a difference

anything will work if you let your mind think it. Last cold I thought I was getting I drank 4L of orange juice, air raid tablets, and cold FX. Didn't get a cold afterall, just a small case of the sniffles (allergy related?).

Report I read said that it helps marginally to ward off a cold, but no help if you already have one.

I've tried it and it may have helped, but the vitamin C pills, oranges and orange juice may have played a role, too.

They are basically just expensive ginseng tablets.

If you believe that ginseng is the magic anti-cold herb, cheaper supplements could probably be found at an Asian grocery.

My hubby has a cold and the last thing I need is to catch it. I am leaving on a trip soon and I need to be healthy!

I'm healthy. Would you like to crash at my place for a while? Very Happy

i wish i had time to find and link it for you before i head to work, but i read a study that tested common cold remedies like vitamin C to see how well they actually hold up and how much is just in our heads.

taking extra vitamin C makes no difference, as your body does not do anything with the extra except get rid of it. it can only absorb so much in a day.

they had a few other things like garlic and cold FX which performed the same, mostly a placebo effect. (not to say its not healthy, just that taking extra made no difference on cold length)

i dont remember exactly what all was on the list, but the one thing i do remember is that the ONLY home remedy that actually reduced the length of colds in the test group by any significant margin was Echinacea (sp?). it boosts your immune system a great deal and helps you fight off the cold a lot faster.

my daily vitamin cocktail includes vitamin D, vitamin C, a multi-vitamin, cod liver oil, garlic pills, and echinacea. When i feel a cold coming on, i double my daily dose of garlic and echinacea and the cold symptoms are usually gone within a day or two. i've handed out baggies of it to friends at work to try when they are sick with the same effect. its the number one cold remedy in my experience.

I can concur with AdamX, I too take a vitamin/mineral cocktail and it contains echinacea. When I feel a cold coming on, I double the dose of echinacea and the symptoms seem to go away. However, my husband has come down this morning with another cold /sore throat and one of his golf buddies is a doctor who told us there is a virus going around that anti biotics is not working on, that you have to work through it. He told us that is wouldn't hurt to sweat it off, that working out a little harder won't hurt. I have always been told that if you are stuffed up from the neck up, you are ol to exercise, but if it is from the neck/chest down to stay away from the gym.
One other consideration to look at is this is the start of allergy season as the snow mould has come to the surface so if anyone suffers from spring allergies, they have started early.

Antibiotics do not work on any virus's. They treat bacterial infections.

That would be why he told us that the antibiotics won't work on the "virus". But regardless there is "something" going around right now that antibiotics are not working on. There are a couple of people in my office who also have something similar to what my husband has, one is on antibiotics and the other is not and neither of them are getting any better. I have a scratchy throat but I know mine is allergy related as I am allergic to snow mould. I just learn to deal with it every spring and fall. Lots of hot liquid, teas and even just plain hot water seems to relieve the throat.

Luckily I haven't been sick in at least 2 years now. But I think that will all change once my kids start going to preschool.

That is what happened to us. We were totally healthy until the kids started attending preschool. Be prepared to get every cold out there once your kids start school.

ain't that the truth.

my daughter wasn't sick for the first 3 1/2 years...then she started daycare...and preschool, and NOW she seems to get sick every few months.

And she passes it to one of us.

Fortunately...I typically don't get sick...so I've had only one real bug, and dodged everything else.

I did try that ColdFX back in the spring when the "swine flu" started kicking in...whether it helped or not? who knows...but i know i spent $60 on a stupid bottle...you better believe I was taking EVERY FREAKING PILL at that price whether they worked or not!!!
