Just curious. What kind of cell do you have? I recently received a blackberry as a gift and now I know why people refer to them as crackberry's!

I'm that guy in western canada who doesn't have a cell phone. I had one about ten years ago, but gave it up since I rarely used it.

Well if you don't like cancer then may I suggest living in a bubble? Wink

I have one in a drawer somewhere.

I love the freedom of having people not be able to contact you.

( ^ thumbs up!)

I just bought a Visorphone (2001-vintage) for my Visor Prism. I have yet to subscribe to a particular provider, however Fido and Rogers apparently both support it.

I have no real use for a cellphone per se, this is just something to piss around with.

Oh come on... at least I gave up on building that Maser out of old microwave ovens... mostly because I can't generate an effective amount of plasma.

I have a MotorolaQ

The only reason I'd consider a Blackberry, is because I'd get UNLIMITED data usage (through MTS)...otherwise I'd get another SmartPhone of some kind (maybe check out an Android phone).

My contract is up next month, so I will be shopping around in the next few weeks anyway.

The DOWNSIDE to Blackberry is that they are VERY proprietary, so software, e-mail, etc. needs to be through them (or approved by them)...whereas a Windows Mobile phone can run lots of other software.

The one key thing I'll be looking for though is a touch-screen.

I had one in my last phone, and when I got the Q it didn't have it (3 years ago)...and there's plenty of applications where I wish it did.

I've got a HTC Hero.

I like it battery draw can be kind of high at times and the keyboard can be smallish.

Can't wait till MTS releases Android OS 2.2 though.

I don't have a landline phone and only use a cell phone from LG. It's not a "smartphone" but it has a big touchscreen, camera, mp3 player, and I also was able to install google maps. It was free with a 3-year plan, and I also got a $100 bestbuy card on top of that. The plan costs about $36/month with all the taxes fees etc and includes 250 regular minutes, unlimited weekends/evenings, unlimited browsing, voicemail, and a couple of 100 messages. It does the job and I like it.

Iphone 4 (that I'm replying to this thread with). Best smartphone UI hands down. Before that was a fan of Nokia N series phones, my last one being the N95. Haven't had a landline in 10 years and couldn't be happier.

I want an iPhone next.

I'm also land line free. I installed a Dock-N-Talk that mates my cell phone with my home phones with bluetooth. http://www.phonelabs.com/

Some manner of LG phone that's designed to be primarily for texting. I never text. I purchased it to get the elementary school to shut up about not being able to contact me in emergencies. Otherwise, for anything other than work, I would not have one. I do not like that people think that because I have a cell phone, they can hunt me relentlessly. I prefer to not be hunted.

I have a Motorola F3. Its not fancy, but that's exactly what I wanted. I've had it 2.5 years now, and its still kicking (or, I'm still kicking it). Dropped, mudded, snowed, stomped, and thrown several times, and still fully functional. Oh yeah, and its been missing a screw since last winter.

I'm hearing that the Android phones, of which there are something like 80 models to choose from, are surging in popularity.

Among smartphones, RIM devices have 33.5% of the market (down 4.1%). Android has increased from 19% to 26% and the iPhone is at 25% and is down by about 1%.

71 percent of Android customers are likely to keep their handset come
upgrade time, with 21 percent of Android owners saying they'd like to
switch to an iPhone. iPhone customers, on the other hand, are a little
more satisfied with their handset, with 89 percent planning to stick
with the iPhone when it's time to upgrade and only 6 percent saying they
are planning to switch to Android.

BlackBerry users account for 33 percent of overall smartphone owners. If
the report is any indication however, RIM won't be on top for long.
Only 42 percent of BlackBerry owners say they want to keep the device,
with 29 percent interested in switching to the iPhone, and 21 percent
considering an Android handset.

Hmmmm 80 models of handset to equal Apples market share with basically 3 models in total. I'm no Apple fanboy but I can say that hands down they offer the best overall user experience when it comes to mobile devices. I have a friend with a new LG running Android 2.1 and it blows. He replaced his lost IP4 with it and is extremely dissapointed. I've used BB, and S60 devices and neither have anywhere near the polish of the iPhones UI. I'm still sentimental for Nokia and was hoping for something great with the N8 but their horrible UI needs to go.

Quick question for the people who dislike being able to be contacted all the time on their cell phone. Why do you feel you MUST answer every call just because you have a cell phone? How is it any different than a landline? If you don't want to talk to someone don't pick up the phone. To me a cell phone is like a landline and a mobile internet connection that I can choose to have with me at all times. Doesn't mean I'm forced to accept all incoming calls. Just means I can if I want to. Same as screening calls on a landline. Do you answer all calls at home just because your phone is connected to a wall with a cable?

I have a Blackberry, I barely use any of the functions. It seems really slow when I go online, which I rarely do. I use it for work, texting and play brickbreaker, which comes in handy when I am in a waiting room or waiting to pick someone up (if I have forgotten to bring a book)
I really don't know how to use the thing and when the plan is up I would just like a regular phone with a full keyboard for texting, I don't need to watch movies, listen to music, go online, receive emails etc on my phone
