Old Jets voice shut out of play-by-play jobs

People are mighty riled about this.

I don't know about mighty riled, I am dissapointed that they hired Munz, Keilbach would have been so much better, but apparently it was a head office decision

I'm certain corporate politics played a role in this. I'd be interested in finding out why Phoenix canned him after more than a decade as their main broadcaster. Something is fishy here as Kielbach is (was) a quality broadcaster.

I got over Munz' hiring as best I could. Then during last night's game, he referenced the "second period" as "the sandwhich frame". Neutral

I am personally glad that (other than the name) nothing from the Jets 1.0 has been revived for the new franchise.

Out with the old and in with the new.

Didn't CJOB also dump him before the Jets were gone?

For some reason I thought Moore was calling the games during the final season.

Yes, due to "contractual differences" Kurt wasn't brought back by CJOB and Kelly Moore finished off the last few seasons, Kurt was brought back in once the team moved to Phoenix.

I agree with you, but would take it one step further. They shouldn't have brought everything over from the Moose. Munz for example. Several AHL players for example. Heisinger is another that has me worried.

I would have loved to have had Keilback, but can definitely live with Beyak.

The name is probably the most significant thing they could have ditched for something new.

Thought so. I was a bit fuzzy since I was in high school for the last couple of seasons.

So if we could replace him then, we can replace him now.

I personally am looking forward to hearing Beyak call the games. As for Munz... meh. With all of the games on TV it is unlikely that I will be listening to many on the radio anyways.

True North can't exactly be held 100% reponsible for bringing over Heisinger and Noel from the Moose. Those choices were ultimately made by Cheveldayoff. Cheveldayoff is also good friends with Heisinger and knows Noel quite well. So hopefully there are no personality issues between the three of them.

Bringing over a few key Moose players isn't a bad move either. It isn't like we are signing stars here. At best, most of the Moose players will have two-way contracts with the IceCaps and see fairly limited play. Those that are decent regulars will see 3rd/4th line play at best.

This season will be a bit of learning for the coaching staff and head office. They are going to have to get to know the players and figure out who fits with under the new regime and who doesn't. I suspect this season will be filled with many issues that will need to be ironed out. Hopefully the team can gel and bust out a few solid wins early on and build some confidence and momentum.
